So than... There's no hope?

Post  TheBestNovice on Sun Nov 04, 2012 12:43 am

I have checked these forums once every couple weeks or so for a while now. Keep hearing murmurings of WS coming back, but every time I check back in things just get less and less hopeful.

I stopped playing WS and KWS when the NA version was shut down. WS2 came out, I tried it, and the removal of novice PVP and the introduction of new debilitating PVP bugs (stunlocking) just made me extremely sad. The game didn't feel skillful anymore, and losing to a player that was better than you didn't motivate you anymore, it just made you frustrated.

I guess I just have a really hard time letting go of a game that I spent 2 years on, and enjoyed immensely. Nothing will ever really be the same for me.

Now, with rumors of KWS shutting down... is there really no hope left?

I played Wind Slayer 2 for the sake of playing Wind Slayer, I've always felt it was a disappointment coming from Wind Slayer 1. Wind Slayer 1 had its share of bugs but the game felt genuine as I've mentioned before. It felt like you were playing an Old Skool MMO ( similar to Ragnarok and Rune Scape ) and those games are successful. Hamelin tried to fix which in my opinion was not broken and ended up making Wind Slayer just another 2DMMORPG. That alone made me not enjoy it as much as I hoped I would.

The P.V.P also greatly disappointed me. The removal of block ( for all except warrior ) novice, especially unlimited ( that hurt me bad lol ) and addition of available stun locking turned Wind Slayer P.V.P into a joke. And this is ignoring the fact that the game encourages spam.

Why did the developers ONLY have to focus on P.V.P in terms of game change? The mining is still very lazily designed, the crafting is just as bad. Quest are pointless, guilds are pointless, people say "well you can GB" but you know what? You can do that in every game ! There wasn't any innovations from 1 to 2 that you might as well kept the name Wind Slayer.

But like I said, I played Wind Slayer 2 for the sake of playing Wind Slayer, not that I enjoyed my time there much.

As for Wind Slayer 2 shutting down, I'm surprised it lasted as long as it has, with so many great 2D games out ( and this is not including the fact that Korea has a truck load more MMOs than everywhere else ) it begs the question how Wind Slayer competes being so mind numbingly simple and developers still expect people to continue paying for it. However it goes to show you that there are loyal Wind Slayers which isn't a bad thing.

Yeah. I just wish someone would pick the original back up. That isn't going to happen though.

Really, the only reason I played WS1 was because of the PvP. It was refreshing to finally play a game where grinding or spending real money wasn't a factor as much as skill, especially in an mmo. Not only that, but the community (though extremely small) was really great. I was just some random noob, and they showed me the ropes and helped me get into it. You would never have that kind of experience in a game like Maplestory.

Taking the nostalgia glasses off, I can see why the game died. Crafting was awful, the leveling was bad to begin with and they made it WORSE, and there was no advertising. At all. Whatsoever. It seems like Hamelin/Outspark wanted it to die.

The murmurs are the communities wishful thinking. Everyone keeps spreading rumors saying the game is going to come out at the end of the month and then when the time comes it lets everyone down. If you don't hear it from Ignited or Hamelin it's just a myth. As for WS2 I liked how they removed block, but the classes in general the range classes needed longer cool downs, or higher mp usage. I think saying it's hopeless fairly accurate. With Hamelin hositing the Korean version on their own server I think they don't have the resources to make the improvements for Ignited or anyone in North America. I didn't think the community of WS was great. I thought it had one of the highest troll concentrations I've ever seen in gaming. I still have all of my WS screenshots of all the "alleged" pro's I got banned for harassment and profanity Didn't see it that much around in WS2.

That sounds about right. It's really unfortunate, but that's just the way it goes I guess.

It remains to be seen whether or not Ignited can actually get WS2 updated, although my guess is a big no. They basically have two options: deliver the bad news, or just shove it under the rug and never speak of it again. It's not hard to imagine them doing the latter.

Thank the lord I finally managed to log in.
To reply to the title, I say yes and no. No proof of it coming around any time soon and no proof of complete forsaking (Besides IG's lack of reply and etc). Don't want anyone get hopes up or down, as the carebears always get upset about it. :L

And for clarification for those that do not know, Kws is not shutting down. Hamelin just shut down the Yahoo! services and hosted their own server. Some people have gotten pretty confused about that. o:

Yesyes. tl;dr. Changed stuffs, nostalgia, bad side aspects to the game, pretty bad community, bad support to the game, etc. I really do think that novice pvp was removed for the low-leveled newcomers to feel a simpler atmosphere without the need to worry about pvp or such (could've just removed that quest requirement >>). And stunlock doesn't seem like it's a "bug", as I'm sure they wanted it in as much as being able to spam skills for the most part.

That second option seems like what they're doing now with the site down, lack of messages, blah blah.

P.S. Is that you Josh?

IgnitedGames trying to move WindSlayer into obscurity? Its probable, however it still begs the question why they haven't done it to WonderKing which has an even lesser chance of making a triumphant return. Who knows, it could probably be like how the WonderKing site having missing and dysfunctioning buttons and IgnitedGames did nothing to repair it. Maybe the Wind Slayer site simply fudged up and since the game isn't currently running they're doing nothing to repair it. Why would they? The game's temporarily shut down.

I'd be allot more optimistic had I seen any of the former WonderKing and WindSlayer GM/Mods on the other IgnitedGames forums as I read them regularly but I don't. It would appear if they haven't taken new GM names they must've gotten fired, laid off or something else?

Many people had different opinions about the changes to P.V.P but the only real issue Wind Slayer 1 P.V.P had besides the whole permalocking with Trapper was that every class didn't have an equal amount of AOE attacks. Think about it, when you went into a guild battle it was very likely that at least half your opponent's team was either going to be Priest ( for spam healing ) or Wizards ( for AOE damage ) They made a much needed fix in giving every class fair damaging AOE attacks however with fixing 1 major P.V.P issue I feel they added an even larger issue, stun locking.

I really need to stop writing such long post.

P.S
I didn't have any frets about the Wind Slayer 1 community as everyone knew it was rare for me to show up in P.V.P and engage with the community, I pretty much kept to myself and a small circle of buddies. Strangely enough as absent I was from all the shenanigans of the game most people started knowing me as that person with all the 50+ first classers which made allot of players hate my guts ( never understood why ) I had so many enemies for NO apparent reason. People chatting instead in P.V.Ping is my only complaint though.

Nobody knows yet. It's either that the new owners of KWS might be demanding, and won't let Ignited Games make WS2.
